"the european suitcase"

european union student exchange programme

The Lycée des Métiers d'Art Design-Mobilier-Décoration at Coarraze is a state sector vocational education establishment located in the Pyrenees-Atlantiques, in the foothills of the mountains. Situated between Pau and Lourdes in the Nay plain, it sits in the heart of a semi-rural region.

It accepts young people between 15 and 22 years old, who have graduated from Year 3 (Year 10 in the UK) in middle school (collège) or from a general Year 2 (Year 11) at senior school (lycée). It also accepts young adults who have decided to return to training.

The lycée offers courses in woodworking and furniture-making crafts: cabinetry, marquetry, decorative sculpture, upholstery (seating and soft furnishings) - and a course in fitting-out of architectural space.

For the past three years students have been able to carry out their professional work experience in England and Spain under the previous “Leonardo Mobility” programme. The team spearheading the programme, which has become more expert with each placement, hopes to continue this activity through Erasmus+, not only with our English and Spanish partners but also with new partners in Belgium. Our establishment is becoming known among its European counterparts, as evidenced by many requests to take on European students, teachers and even crafts workers.
